Green Sustainable Solutions, LLC., a privately owned company headquartered in Parkersburg, WV, with locations in Metro Richmond, VA and Florence, SC, is a global leader in industrial sustainable packaging solutions that also provides innovative packaging recovery, re-use, and return logistics systems. GSS saves their clients millions of dollars and keeps raw materials out of landfills. In addition to these services, the company operates a national trucking, manufacturing, and distribution network supported by over 2.5M square feet of manufacturing, warehousing, and research / development space. With so many resources and 50+ years of experience, GSS can easily handle the step by step details of their programs to ensure volume economics, technology in application, and exacting quality. Strategically located corporate resources and services provide daily support to 70 percent of the US manufacturing base, as well as parts of Asia and Europe.

1948 - Beginning in 1948 with three employees as a wood products business manufacturing boxes, containers and pallets Incorporation was completed in 1950.

1957 - The company began furnishing cost of possession, just-in-time packaging and was selling a plethora of packaging products to major industrials. This is still ongoing. In addition, the company manufactured missile boxes for Nike Hercules and others, wire bound boxes, ammunition containers, fuse and shell boxes, torpedo boxes, cannon barrel containers, and bomb cases.

1965 - The company began designing and manufacturing for GE Evendale afterburner, rotor and jet engine containers. All of the above products were shipped to various locations some of which include: Aerojet General (Azusa, CA), GE Large Aircraft Division (Cincinnati, OH), Goodyear Aerospace (Akron, OH), Intercontinental Manufacturing (Garland, TX), Philadelphia Ordinance (Philadelphia, PA), Redstone Arsenal (Huntsville, AL), Thiokol (Elkton, MD and White Sands, NM), and the Watervilet Arsenal (Watervilet, NY).

1978 - The company was the first to implement a return program for coil platforms for the steel industry.

1994 - Green Sustainable Solutions, LLC., is established, as a wholly owned subsidiary of GWP Industries, LLC, a combination of two packaging companies owned by GWP Industries. Green Sustainable Solutions experiences tremendous growth, and becomes an industry leader in the fields of package design and return logistics systems.

1998 - GSS then went on to implement return programs for expendable packaging for other global companies and provides shipping both nationally and internationally.

Present Day - From its humble beginnings in 1948, GSS now employs over 300 people. GSS offers expertise in the following industries: Military, Automotive, Industrial Products, Recreational Vehicles, Steel and Petrochemical. GSS offers high-quality engineered packaging systems, with over 50 years of design and manufacturing experience, and develops custom return logistics systems designed to work with customers' existing packaging and businesses. These returns programs have continued to the present day and the long term prognosis is that reuse, not recycling, will be a key component of future protection of the environment, and indeed a very significant portion of the U.S. Gross National Product.

Recognized worldwide for outstanding results Our unique system has not only received the appreciation of our customers, but has gotten the attention of some very prestigious organizations:

The World Star Award, presented in Dusseldorf, Germany. From a field of over 300 global individual entries, a panel of distinguished international judges in Tokyo, for the first time ever, unanimously selected Green Sustainable Solutions as the winner. We were recognized for the redesign of a customer’s package for polyester film shipping that resulted in a 34% reduction in annual spending – and the redesigned unit as only one pound of non-recoverable materials (a reduction from the previous 47 pounds). In addition, all items in the unit are recoverable and fully reusable.

The Sustainable Growth Excellence Award for reduced use of depleteable raw materials and energy. Green Sustainable Solutions was chosen by a worldwide selection committee, composed of a global customer’s external and internal experts, and based upon our program that diverted 30,000,000 pounds of packaging from landfills, reducing the customer’s packaging spending by $7,600,000.

West Virginia Business Environmental Leadership Award for superiority in Pollution Prevention through the demonstration of waste minimization by reduction and reuse. Through our system, we kept over 37,000,000 pounds of waste packaging from West Virginia’s landfills alone in one year – setting a standard of excellence for a sustainable economy and environment.
